Toenail Cutting & Thick Nail Care in Warrington

Safe, Comfortable Help for Thickened, Curved or Hard-to-Cut Toenails

A podiatry patient with thick, bendy problem toenails. Not all toenails are easy to manage. If yours have become thick, curved, brittle, or painful to

cut you’re not alone, and you don’t have to struggle on your own (or risk a DIY job gone

wrong).

I’m Dianne, the PottyPurplePod, a private podiatrist in Warrington with over 30 years’

experience helping people keep their feet comfortable, especially when nails become a

problem. Whether it’s due to ageing, injury, long-term fungal infection, or just tricky

anatomy, I offer safe, professional care using the right tools (and a comfy chair) to make

things easier for you.

What Causes Thick or Problematic Toenails?

There are lots of reasons why toenails become difficult to manage:

– Natural changes due to ageing

– Previous trauma to the nail or toe

– Long-standing fungal nail infection

– Poor circulation or underlying medical conditions

– Footwear that causes repeated pressure or damage

Sometimes it’s just the way your nails grow, but it doesn’t mean you should have to put up

with discomfort.

Why They’re So Hard to Cut at Home

Some people assume podiatrists just “cut toenails.” If only it were that simple! Thick,

distorted or curved nails can be incredibly complex to manage safely especially when

they’re linked to underlying health issues or have been left untreated for years. This is

skilled work, not salon-level care.

Thick, curved or damaged nails can be very tough to trim. Add in poor eyesight, arthritis, or

wobbly hands, and it becomes a stressful task. Many of my clients come in after struggling

to manage their own feet, or after a well-meaning family member or carer has tried to help.

The risks? Cuts, infections, pain; and nails that still aren’t comfortable.

I use professional podiatry-grade tools (plus an LED light and wet spray drill) to gently thin,

smooth and shape thick nails, making them easier to manage and more comfortable to walk

on.

Who Is This Service For?

It’s also worth knowing that the NHS no longer routinely provides general podiatry care or

ongoing nail maintenance, even for people with long-term health conditions like diabetes

or circulation problems. That’s where private care steps in to keep you safe, mobile, and

comfortable.

– Older adults with naturally thickened or hard-to-reach nails

– Anyone with mobility, vision or balance issues

– Carers or family members looking after someone else’s feet

– People with long-standing fungal nails that no longer respond to treatment

– Anyone nervous about causing pain or injury trying to cut their own nails

Sometimes It’s More Than Just a Nail

infection, circulatory issues, or hidden wounds beneath tough nails. If it needs further care,

I’ll let you know exactly what the next step is.
